The most popular beaches are on Bigbury Bay including Bigbury-On-Sea which is an excellent large family beach and nearby Bantham Sand which is popular with surfers. To the west of Bigbury is the curved sandy beach at Challaborough and the small coves at Ayrmer Cove and Westcombe Beach.

Dartmouth Castle, Dartmouth: Picturesquely-sited fortress. For over 600 years Dartmouth Castle has guarded the Dart Estuary and the port of Dartmouth....Jutting out at the entrance to the Dart estuary, this well-positioned castle was one of the earliest in England specifically designed to carry guns. This fascinating complex of defences was begun in 1388 by John Hawley, privateering mayor of Dartmouth and the prototype of the flamboyant ‘Shipman’ in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales.

Totnes Castle/Fort, Totnes: The English Heritage castle is the focal point of the town, standing as a legacy to the once powerful Normans. Brixham:
A real family resort, Brixham is also a large and active fishing port. William of Orange landed here in 1688 (an event marked by his statue in the harbour. Central to Brixham itself is the Golden Hind, a full size replica of Sir Francis Drake's iconic flagship. With a long history of screen appearances in film and television drama, it's a unique opportunity to experience the life of a sailor in times gone by.
